I kind of expected the Lib Dems to hold on to Yardley East and congratulations to their winning candidate. Judging from social media, Labour did a good campaign and we did well there. No improvement on last time, I'm afraid. 0.1%? Worth a triumphal arch I would think?

NEWARK AND SHERWOOD Rainworth South and Blidworth THOMPSON, Tina (Independent) 650 JACKSON, Sheila Mary (Conservative) 168 WALSH, Callum (Labour) 164 Electorate 4,440 Turnout 22.2% wow! I visited Blidworth a couple of times during the miners' strike. Cambridge CLP collected for striking miners in that area. A pretty silent, divided place then. I'd assume that before then that the Labour vote was weighed or the ward was uncontested. The profile for this ward also shows a strong liking for locally rooted candidates (often the case in wards like this in my experience). I would assume that the Labour candidate lacked those. Unsurprised by the result .

There are presumably plenty of people in Yardley who are currently voting Lib Dem locally and Conservative nationally. And Labour nationally.

Judging by social media would be the problem here. For Birmingham Labour it was a tiny campaign, compared to what they are capable of.

No improvement on last time, I'm afraid. Labour may not be too disappointed at holding their 2018 position, given how the Brum byelections earlier in the year went.

I was quite surprised to see on Twitter that Potteries Young Labour had been out canvassing on Wednesday - partly because I didn’t know there was a Potteries Young Labour, and partly because it’s always been a challenge to get people to campaign outside their own Ward no matter venturing 50 miles into another universe!

Perhaps some of them are Keele students with home address in Yardley?

On that basis probably more likely to be Staffordshire Uni as Keele’s Newcastle-under-Lyme, and the good folk of Newcastle don’t take kindly to being lumped with we Stokies.

I had not really clocked that distinction. Is Newcastle U-L not at all in "the Potteries"? Keele students might not feel the distinction any more strongly than a Yorkshireman like me anyway..

We are presumably all going over yesterday's news because there's no white smoke from Horsham?

We are presumably all going over yesterday's news because there's no white smoke from Horsham? Supply problems have affected match deliveries in Sussex..

Horsham Forest LD 47.4% (+7.9) Lan 26.6% (+4.2) Con 21.1% (-0.2) Green 5% Ummm.... there was no Green or other candidate last time, so those changes really don't add up There were Peace and UKIP candidates (see first page of the thread).
