This probably depends on the elections office. Ours always checks over the forms when they're submitted, and they've sometimes rejected them. We once had a nomination wrongly rejected on the grounds that one of the assentors was under 18, when they were actually in their twenties (aid assentor later voted without a problem), but were told and were able to resubmit. I wonder what the problem was with the home address? The one on the SOPN appears to be a commercial premises.

I wonder what the problem was with the home address? The one on the SOPN appears to be a commercial premises. It says he messed up his home address form, rather than that his home address wasn't valid, so my guess would be that he either didn't submit a home address form at all (not realising that you have to complete one, even if you don't want to withhold your home address), or that the person he got to attest to his home address form wasn't the same person who witnessed the completed consent to nomination form. Both of these are understandable errors, although I assume the nomination must have been submitted at the last minute, as any decent election officer would have pointed out the error almost straight away. Both the Conservative and the Heritage Party candidates are called William Robert Dixon (although the Conservative throws a couple of extra middle names in for good measure).

We only have the PCC election here. This morning I had a walk around my neighbouring ward of Trull, Pitminster and Corfe where there is a district council by election on Thursday. This was a new ward that the Lib Dem’s surprisingly won in 2019 and consists of the very affluent villages of Trull to the North of the M5 and Pitminster, Corfe and Blagdon Hill which are south of the M5. These are probably the most desirable villages around Taunton. The villages don’t have much in common and it isnt a very sensible ward.
The by election was caused by the resignation of the second placed Lib Dem in 2019, who obviously didn’t expect to be elected and resigned ‘due to work commitments’ and disenchantment with the role and the council.
On my walk this morning I counted about 20 Lib Dem diamonds, mostly on very big houses. 2 Conservative boards also on very big houses. I also saw a huddle of Lib Dem’s standing outside Trull post office canvassing.
The Lib Dem’s have a candidate from Trull, the biggest village- and are mentioning ‘only local candidate’ as their headline on everything. The Conservative candidate lives in Wellington which is about 5 miles away although he is the County Councillor for part of the ward.
I suspect that the Lib Dem’s will win, possibly comfortably, which if they were to lose this ward twice, would be a bad result for the Conservatives. Both parts of this ward were always Conservative until 2019.
