Bassetlaw - Ranskill ward by-election (caused by resignation of Labour cllr) Gerald Bowers (Con) Leon Duveen (Lib Dem) Michael Gray (Independent, formerly Con) This ward was won by Labour in 2019, I believe for the first time in its history after selecting a popular local candidate. The ward was previously Conservative 2007-2019 and Liberal Democrat 2002-2003. The independent candidate was the Conservative councillor for this ward from 2007 until 2019 when he was deselected. He subsequently stood for re-election as an independent in 2019 and achieved third place with 25% of the vote. As there is no Labour candidate this time this ward will be a Labour 'loss' regardless of who wins. As things stands the Conservatives are likely to re-gain this naturally Tory ward (I have received two leaflets from them so far and have heard nothing from the other candidates). The Liberal Democrats achieved only 6% in 2019 and are unlikely to do much better this time. www.bassetlaw.gov.uk/elections-2021/statement-of-persons-nominated/district-council-candidates/Bassetlaw - Sutton Con, Lab, LD Bassetlaw - Tuxford and Trent Con, Lab, LD

SOPN for Lancaster at: www.lancaster.gov.uk/the-council-and-democracy/voting-and-elections/vacanciesBulk Ward (due to resignation of Green councillor) Conservative, Labour, Liberal Democrats, Green Kellet Ward (due to death of Liberal Democrat councillor) Conservative, Liberal Democrats, Independent Bulk was taken from Labour by the Greens in 2007 and has been held by them ever since, save when one of their councillors defected to Labour in 2017 (he lost his seat in 2019). The Green candidate, Jack Lenox, was parliamentary candidate for Copeland in the 2017 by-election (515 votes) and the 2019 general election (765 votes). The Conservative candidate, also standing for the Lancaster Rural East county division which he is more likely to win, is Matthew Maxwell-Scott, heir presumptive to the Constable Maxwell-Scott baronetcy, former Chairman of the Conservative group on Wandsworth Council and parliamentary candidate for Carshalton & Wallington in 2015 and 2017. The Labour candidate, Anna Lee, is a former member of the NUS Women's Committee. The Lib Dems won Kellet by 6 votes from the Conservatives in May 2019. The Lib Dem candidate for Kellet this time, Ross Hunter, was second to the Conservatives in the next-door ward of Upper Lune Valley by 17 votes in May 2019. The Conservative candidate for Kellet, Stuart Morris, will also be restanding as county councillor for Morecambe North, which does not include Kellet. The Independent candidate for Kellet, Kathryn Atkins, is married to the Vice-Chairman of Over Kellet Parish Council.

Rejected twice in a seat the Tories now hold! He must have been particularly off-putting to the electorate there...
