The chaos caused by Mr Morris has been noted here before. I’m sure everyone in Maldon will be glad to see the back of him. Hopefully the voters of Heybridge will consider their vote more carefully next time. To be fair he was only elected by 4 votes. Here's his parting shot. He's completely wrong about the law, of course.

Sad to report the death of Malcolm Spalding, Conservative councillor for Earl's Court ward on the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea since 2014. I understand he had been reselected to defend his seat and died very suddenly.

The shocking news for the 7th April is that serial offenders Horsham have beaten both Dorset and Telford & Wrekin in getting their SOPN published... Why do Councils publish the list of Agents shortly after the close of nominations but wait until the last minute before the deadline before publishing the SOPN. Is this because they have "always done it" that way even though a candidate cannot now formally withdraw after the close of nominations?

RUTLAND County Council: Uppingham vacancy now confirmed.
Resignation of Miranda Jones (Green) as councillor for the three-member Uppingham Ward. Moving away for work reasons.
(Another Green was elected last week in the Ryhall & Casterton by-election; clearly the resignation was delayed until that campaign was over).

Could be right though.

It's often simpler to have all the election paperwork go through either a local nominating officer for that authority or (for non-paper candidates) the local party treasurer, since you've got fewer people who have to collaborate on the paperwork.

I wonder how many people are councillors for two different district councils at the same time. It can’t be many. Double hatters are common for district and county, usually covering the same area, of course. These two wards are separated by Saltdean. I assume he lives in Peacehaven and runs a business in Rottingdean.

I suspect it's because the list of agents is a straightforward copy-and-paste matter, so they have that ready to go ASAP to give themselves the full 24-hour window to triple-check that the much more complicated nomination and authorisation paperwork is all in order (for example, where authorisation to use emblems/descriptions has been delivered separately or by post, and needs matching up with candidate paperwork).
