It's a shame we no longer have Andrew Neil's four hour by election specials.

My two immediate reactions:
1) oh this is going to be fun 2) oh God can you imagine what ridiculous clichés mainstream journalists think of for this one?

1) Why did he resign now?
2) How soon can the writ be moved? Is it too late to time it for 6th May?

Rumour is Mandelson wants a come back. Said to be supported by Blair. This gets rumoured all the time and its never true. He's in the Lords anyway.

Can someone please amend the legislation on peers to make it clear that resigning from the House is about either retiring with dignity or getting out before being expelled for crime? It should not be a way for peers to transfer down to the Commons.
Let them have a vote for Westminster again but they should remain ineligible to stand for the Commons.

Who will be the first to refer to Hartlepool as a coal mining town?

It's a shame we no longer have Andrew Neil's four hour by election specials. Those of us from an older generation yearn for Vincent Hanna.

"How soon can the writ be moved? Is it too late to time it for 6th May? Pretty sure it could be on May 6th, provided they get a move on with the writ.

Just about the worst Labour-held seat imaginable for a by-election to take place in.

Mandelson is a sideshow. He won't be the Labour candidate
Most intriguing is Tice, the new Reform UK leader, being the candidate for the Brexit party last time - will he or a replacement candidate be able to maintain that level of support?
