Parliamentary elections were held yesterDay by the Maduro-(semi)regime. The sites of the CNE and ministries don't deliver results; apparently the opening of the PollingStations was extended. Despite AbStention being 81%, at least according to this source:

Freddy Superlano of the opposition alliance won the Barinas gubernatorial election. However, the Venezuelan Supreme Court has annulled the results of the elections, called a new one and banned Mr Superlano from holding public office.

An electoral type event was held yesterday with a series of referenda to canvas Venezuelans' views on the status of Guyana's Essequibo region. Over 95% of Venezuelans voted to annex the region and to ignore any forthcoming IJC ruling on the dispute: www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-67610200

Wot’z the turnout? Is it a “turnout-type event”? Only about 50% according to El País 10% according to the linked BBC article. The 50% turnout was *votes* across 5 referenda. So divide by 5 to get the true turnout.

Unsurprisingly, the communists/socialists have rigged another vote.

This is a bit unfortunate (if correct):

I feel sorry for Venezuelans because the only way they’re going to get rid of this socialist regime is if their drug trafficking military overthrows the state, which will probably mean another tyranny, an outside intervention, though with Lula that’s unlikely, or a violent revolution.

Its not like Maduro is even recognisably left wing these days, but the "anti-imperialist" brigade still continue to back him uncritically.

Unsurprisingly, the communists/socialists have rigged another vote. More likely is that someone messed up with inputting the numbers into the bar chart machine. If it’s 4.6% for “Others”, then it’s understandable if somebody accidentally put in 4.6% for each of the three others instead of a total. Or the computer graphic might have been programmed wrongly. Either is more likely than that they rigged the numbers in a way that was so obvious.

That said, I wouldn’t put it past the commies to do an Orwellian double think style stunt though, would you?

Proper socialism has still never been tried It fails every time and that’s always the line. Eventually social democrats are going to have to denounce both communism and socialism because both are inherently authoritarian. You can’t redistribute and take things from people, whilst social engineering “progressivism”, without a hefty stick. Then, ofc, once you’ve got that power, you aren’t going to give it up or be beneficent with it.

Social Democrats have, I think, been denouncing Communism for quite a long time, or at least did back when it was a real thing, rather than a slightly odd collection of very different legacy regimes, even more diverse (but invariably rather elderly and now largely deceased) legacy parties without much obvious purpose, and memories.

So it's Thatcher's fault, not the inevitable working out of a centrally planned economy.

So it's Thatcher's fault, not the inevitable working out of a centrally planned economy. It's a kleptocracy, rather like Putin's Russia - socialist (in this case) rhetoric but with national assets seized and controlled by a small group close to the political leadership. Blaming it on capitalism is, I agree, laughably stupid...
