Well 2017 was scarily tight, yes. What was the UNS swing needed for a majority. Not much. from a post on another thread by me:2017:Con lead for bare majority 3.1%,Lab lead for bare majority 7.3% and 0.7% Lab lead needed to draw level on seats

What are you suggesting? Who are the differences - left or right? The Left used to believe in freedom of speech. Not now. They used to oppose the EU because they believed that sovereignty rested with the people. Not now. They would never have supported Davos. That's changed. They wouldn't have supported flooding the labour market and forcing down wages. The opposite is true now. They believed that all were equal, black or white, men or women. Not now...we have hate-filled wokery. The Left, in the past, knew that power properly rested with the people. Sovereignty rests with us... but now it is to be given away to globalist bodies. The Left used to believe in equality before the law. Definitely not now So, if they change, what are the differences ? If you agree: Freedom of speech Opposition for the EU and pro-sovereignty Opposing Davos Increasing wages and limited employment Equality - people are 'the same', or equality in law. Opposing globalism. What do you agree - what will be different? This sounds like Reform? The Right and the Left will be peas in a pod.

You misunderstand. The difference now is that the 'new' so-called Left holds few - if any - of the values the Left used to hold. They are the opposite and actually despise the working class. Increasingly the working class despises them

Lets not let rhetoric and empty soundbites get in the way of hard cold legislation for the lower paid working classes eh?

Even accepting your premise, PR systems arguably enable the likes of le Pen and Wilders - rather than holding them back as you claim. When did Le Pen win anything under PR? The RN did come out on top in the last European election in 2024 and joint top in 2019. Arguably PR also gave them their first major breakthrough in 1986 (and was a classic Mitterrand manipulation). But then clearly the French two-round system doesn't stop the fringes anymore.

If you put Le Pen against Mélenchon in the second round, I feel quite a lot of LR or macronists will vote for Le Pen.
Anyone who is happy with Bruno Retailleau is unlikely to be uncomfortable with Le Pen.
