Couldn't we at least have waited until after the inaugoration to start this thread?! I will make an exception to my views against draconian admin action if you chose to severely punish the originator of this thread. Quite right too, it should be "US Presidential *Race* 2024"

Trumpkin will have another go in 4 years, or another member of the clan will step up (or be pushed)

Assuming Biden wins this time, 2024 = Republican Candidate winning Presidency, whoever stands for Democrats and Republicans.

Unless something unusual happens, I can see that happening.

Here's a question for you all - you're a republican say Nikki Haley or Tom Cotton - you want to run in 2024 but Trump or one of his sprogs is running. How do you beat them?

It's looks tough for them at the moment. They would be in a much better position is Trump had been comprehensively beaten as the polls had suggested. Trumpism is clearly going to continue even when (or if) Trump loses. I honestly think nobody other than a Trump candidate (Don Jr. clearly has eyes on the top job, but the big man himself might want to have another crack if he's in good enough health) has much chance at the moment, but it is just at the moment.
2016 was a harrowing year for the Democrats. The GOP won the trifecta when many Dems had thought that they could have won it. Yet, just two years late in 2018, the Democrats came surging back. The dynamic had changed.
People are already saying that 2022 will be an awful midterm for the Dems. Why? Nobody knows the circumstances of what will be going on then. There could be a GOP war between the two sides. We could have a Covid vaccine in mass-circulation and the economy starts booming. It could be the complete opposite. Who knows?
So, yeah, today it looks like Don/Don Jr would probably be unbeatable in the primaries. I wonder if anyone else has ideas though.

If you're talking about prison: If Don Jr. goes down, Ivanka/ Eric/ Jared Kushner are in the wings waiting.

Surely if a Trump has to run, Ivanka is their best shot? She doesn't have her father's rough edges and seems much smarter than her brothers, so may be able to win back those Donald has lost this year while energising the base through her surname.

Do any of the ‘little’ Trumps have their father’s ability to inspire the base? Whatever you think of him Donald is very good at the rallies. He connects with certain people. Do the kids really have that ability?
I would think it’ll be someone outside the family, but perhaps endorsed by them, having adopted some of the Trumpian ideology on protectionism, immigration, infrastructure etc.

Nope, we are (finally) going to skip a generation in 2024 surely (even if Biden runs again, his GOP opponent will be decades younger)

Moving to the next generation sounds good.

I'm wondering which states the parties would focus their campaigns on in 2024.
The rust belt needs to be defended/ recaptured so that's MI/ WI/ MN/ PA. Ohio is a tough one because the senate seat will need to be defended by the Democrats, but doesn't, at the moment, look competitive providentially.
Clearly they both need to go for the South-eastern coastal states of NC/ GA/ FL.
Then there are the southwestern states that look very close this time - AZ/ NV. Knowing the Dems though, they will spend hundreds of millions fighting for Kentucky or South Carolina...

I think Ivanka gives off too much of a metropolitan elite vibe and would probably lose a few percent just for being a woman.

The money spent in Kentucky was from small donors who hate McConnell, rather than being national or targetted Democrat spending. If California didn't do jungle primaries, you'd probably see similar ridiculous sums of money donated by Republicans towards a Republican challenger to Pelosi.

I'm very aware of that, but it is still Democratic donor money that could be far better spent elsewhere.
Democratic pundits were mainly to blame for making it seem like McGrath had a chance. It was a joke.
