Almost certainly the first profile to mention beef dripping. Not the constituency I would immediately associate with beef dripping if I'm honest There are other beef links too - it contains the so-called Bovril Castle, a mansion built by the inventor of that delicacy. Though nowadays it's been surrounded by somewhat dubious looking housing and seems to be a community centre.

With an Oxo Tower in Bermondsey & Old Southwark and a Bovril Castle in Dulwich & West Norwood, one can't help feelinng that Camberwell & Peckham is missing out on a Marmite Palace

Owned by Southwark and operating as conference centre, wedding venue etc.

Indeed not. That makes it all the more remarkable.
Though the inability to get proper chips is another symptom of decline in that London.

After almost disappearing, chip shops seem to have undergone a renaissance in my neck of the woods at least.
Although they have odd names. I noticed one called "Oh Yes!" fish bar and another just called 'Greedy' Fish bar.

We've lost some over the years but gained some more. In both Kew and East Sheen there are 2 fish & chip shops, one in East Sheen being more of a restaurant, the others all definitely being takeaways. The fish & chip restaurant in Richmond, the Quality Fish Bar, which does a strong trade both in eating in & taking away, is largely unchanged since the 1960s. I don't think Mortlake has a chippy at the moment but there's a good one in Barnes High Street, very near by.

In Whitton the place where my mother gets her fish and chips is still the same as when i was growing up, Regans . As you say if they survive at all, they seem to stay for many decades. Not many types of shop you can say that about.

I'm glad to see my childhood chippie is still going although its changed name - its now Bushey Fish Bar whereas it used to be Michael's Fish Bar and now, confusingly, there is a Michael's Fish & Grill at a new location down in the village (but I assume not the same Michael). I suppose its not surprising they are surviving in relatively affluent suburban areas - you need to be fucking wealthy to buy the stuff these days!

I'm not denying that there are some very acceptable chippies out there that don't use the traditional method. (And I'm not even sure how authentically 'traditional' it actually is - if the dish has Jewish origins, then surely using beef fat to fry fish would not have been Kosher?)
But I do have a strong personal preference for Northern-style beefy chips, and frequently lament at how difficult it is to find them.

I managed to stay awake long enough to do Erith & Thamesmead, quite possibly the least interesting constituency in Greater London, and I can probably manage the last two Bexley seats, of which I have reasonable local knowledge, unless there's someone else better-placed who wants to take these on?
