If we have time and people are willing to do it, would it be worth writing something to summarise counties as well? They often have peculiar but county-wide cultural and demographic features that impact their politics and voting patterns, and would allow anything that's relevant to more than one seat to go in a single piece rather than be repeated each time for each seat.

I am currently writing a lengthy piece for Yardley. Feel free to do your own as well but you might want to prioritise the other seats. My process is horizontal rather than vertical, but I won’t actually write a profile for Yardley as yours is certain to be better. I wonder if johnhemming will write one?

As long as you are prepared for lengthy diatribes about what you mean by a county.

I will write Fylde (as an additional/alternative/to be merged with) version to the profile posted today, and Chorley, and then likely leave East Lancs to the experts.

Given the knowledge John has, and the data he presumably has, he could produce a deeply insightful piece of work that I would be very interested in reading. However I reserve the right to be a tad narked if having spent 6 hours* writing an entry that is well over 2,000 words John comes along produces something much better. * I still need to proof read the bloody thing.

We are now 30% of the way there We aren't, of course. What I think you mean is that there are entries of some sort for about 30% of constituencies, but some entries are a lot more complete and comprehensive than others, some have maybe conflicting summaries to be resolved, and anyway we have done the easiest third, i.e the ones that most of those interested in this project found easiest to do. Then there were the overarching concerns and comparisons across the whole country mentioned by Robert Waller. When we have done all the 650 constituencies we might be approaching the half way point for the whole project- maybe not even that. Swan is quite right to say this could be a project for the next 4 years -I think we will need most of that, and we'll still be going when Coronavirus is a distant memory (hopefully). I have been looking at where we have got to in the South-East, my home region. Overall we have entries of some sort for 29 constituencies out of 84, so slightly over the 30% mark, but of you look at the coverage by ceremonial counties ,say, we find a very uneven level of interest depending where people are, so Oxfordshire has 4 done out of 5 and Surrey 7 out of 11, but only 3 out of 19 in Hampshire, 1 out of 8 in Bucks, and 2 out of 8 in Berks. It looks as though we may need to find people interested in some of those black holes. In Kent there is a gap in West Kent and in Sussex only the Brighton & Hove conurbation has been done- nothing at all in the rest of Sussex, East or West. Maybe other people should look at their home regions to see where the holes are and to see who could be encouraged to make offers to work on those gaps. I can have a go at Beaconsfield, Wycombe and Slough. Chesham and Amersham at a push. And the Wirral seats. I'll finish the Liverpool seats this week.

I hope to do much of Cumbria soon (though would certainly be happy for Carlisle at least to be attempted by someone else)

Although I agree with sentiments above that there is no need to rush things, I am also aware that there is a bit of a need to keep things ticking over.We need a bit of momentum going forward! I sort-of finished my seven East Kent constituencies some while ago and though from time to time I keep adding to those with odd bits of statistics and will continue to do so, I will admit there isn't quite the same creative satisfaction compared with writing a constituency profile from scratch. I am also a bit concerned that my home region looks to have stalled for the moment with still 55 more constituencies to do!I am starting to wonder about Sussex where I probably would be more at home than in West Kent which is something of a mystery-us Men of Kent don't talk to the Kentish men, of course. The five I have in mind are Hastings & Rye, Lewes, Eastbourne, Worthing West, and Bognor Regis & Littlehampton, three from East Sussex and two from the West. I do appreciate those are probably the five juiciest of the remaining Sussex seats so if there's someone out there who thinks they are better equipped to take them on please say now, before I start work. I have present family connections in most of these seats, especially in Eastbourne and in BR&L, have done campaigning work in some but mainly Eastbourne and Lewes, while Hastings and Rye is the last of the seats with common boundaries with my home constituency of Ashford.

Lewes, where I once lived, is on my list once I have finished Birmingham, so you might want to do the others first.

I don't want to pour cold water on any suggestion, but I would point out that I have proposed that we should do regional surveys, as in the old Almanacs and the Politico's Guides to the House of Commons which I co-edited in 2015 and 2017 and which several contributors on here helped with. So by all means have a go at a county if you wish, but I shall not be pushing for every one to be done as part of any grand plan' I might be nurturing ...!

I suppose there might be a case for gathering a few reamarks on a county -wide basis before pputting it all together in a region-wide one? L suppose that might be most applicable where both the counties are pretty big and the region itself is massive, as particularly with South-East. Kent is more or less equal in size to Northern Ireland, say.

I am starting to reach constituencies where others have already submitted profiles. As a general point, many of these are very good and my contributions will largely compliment them and i am happy for others to do the same to my own. Nonetheless, i would discourage people submitting profiles that are short and effectively based on a single Wikipedia article, as it adds little to our project and i am sure more knowledgeable contributors will be able to collectively cover every constituency eventually.

I will go further. Anyone using wikipedia as a significant source of information for a profile shouldn't be righting that profile. Lots of the profiles are really good but there are some where the author clearly lacks any kind of psephological knowledge of the seat in question.

I am using Wikipedia only to check some facts after writing the profiles, as I have made some errors doing things from memory. This seems reasonable. But I agree that if this is the primary source then you shouldn’t be writing a profile.

I am planning to do Kingswood and NE Somerset next and will then do some more of the Welsh valleys. I am only writing about seats where I have personal knowledge.
