Excellent. I'm going to have a hard time being that succinct I think

Really well done to @barnabymarder for getting us started, and so well!
I am wondering now if and when we should think about breaking up this thread into, say, regions so the profiles can be collected together logically and easily found.
Perhaps administrators / experienced posters might make suggestions?
Possibly a little early to do this, until we are sure there will be sufficient take-up - so I eagerly look forward to others following Barnaby's example!
(By the way, I see no particular need to be succinct; unlike books, the internet can expand indefinitely)

And it's not every day that I'm told I'm being succinct! I think I'll do Brentford & Isleworth next if I may, it's the nearest other constituency to where I live. I'll leave the rest of Middlesex except Twickenham to Pete. You may as well do Feltham & Heston as well (if you fancy it) as it completes Hounslow borough which (apart from Brentford to an extent) is rather outside my sphere

I'm just wondering if at this stage we could avoid this thread rather wandering off track.... For example, would anyone who has expressed interest like to nominate a constituency or constituencies for which they are willing to write an initial entry? For example Pete Whitehead , andrewp , andrewteale ? (Just selected as the first three to give a positive response to my initial suggestion) Happy to handle as much of the North West, particularly Greater Manchester. Your knowledge is much wider on this than mine, but I'm happy to help with some local flavour around South Manchester/North Cheshire.

I have been reading through the descriptions of constituencies so far and greatly enjoying them and wondering whether to offer to make a few of my own. I could certainly attempt the Ashford one, and maybe the rest of East Kent if nobody else better placed was trying i.e, Folkestone & Hythe, Dover, both Thanet seats, and maybe most interestingly, Canterbury.

This is a wonderful thread, Robert Waller. I have provisionally created a sub board to devote to this topic. I could create new threads from the profiles already written (if people are happy with this idea), and would invite people to create a thread for each proposed constituency profile. If there are enough profiles I can restructure the sub board to divide the constituencies into regions.

This all looks really interesting! I'm certainly happy to contribute to a few if it would help? Stroud would be the obvious one for me to do but there will be others here who know areas of it better than me and have known them for longer. I could also possibly contribute to my dad's "home" (as in "grew up there") seat of Hayes & Harlington, my grandmother's constituency of Witney and maybe a few others where I have family?

Exactly how much detail is required?

Exactly how much detail is required? As much or as little as you want I’d say!

Since Oxfordshire seems rather bare, I've gone back on my initial pledge and I'm willing to do Oxfordshire (except Witney which is covered), and potentially Swindon too. I've already written up a first draft for Oxford East - would that be better placed here or in the subforum, once I've edited it?

I've some familiarity with the Chipping Norton area (and have a rough sketch of a paragraph contrasting its Labour voting core with the "Chipping Norton set" villages in my head), but that's about it.

Brilliant, because that's the part of the seat I know least. I'm really good with the areas around Eynsham where my grandmother lives, I'm ok with Witney and Carterton but start to struggle around Chipping Norton. So if you wold like to contribute, the please do

I've done a first draft for Stroud: I'm cutting it down a bit for here because it nearly 1300 words long!

I've done a first draft for Stroud: I'm cutting it down a bit for here because it nearly 1300 words long! I mean, I wouldn't expect every constituency to be the same length. A place as marginal and heterogeneous as Stroud will end up with a much longer profile than somewhere which was more homogeneous and safe, such as Leeds East. Oxford West and Abingdon will probably be a nightmare since there are at least four or five distinct areas there, not too different to Stroud really!
