Cameron is at least sensible enough to keep Dorries away from the front bench. Abbott promoted Mirabella to the shadow cabinet on taking over as Liberal leader, and would presumably have appointed her to the government this week. The voters of Indi have thus done the people of Australia a great service.

Actually the recount is probably fairly simple, all the votes are now in.

Palmers United party seems to have won a senator in WA rather than the sports party. Does the fact I feel some measure of relief about this show that I am now officially an old fuddy-duddy? Or is it just that it is good to see United win something after that bloody disaster yesterday?

It also seems the Greens are now missing out in WA senate...

Palmer's lead up to 7.
Whether or not he ends up in the House of Representatives, his two supporters will have the balance of power in the Senate.
Seven seats yet to declare: Grayndler and McMahon in New South Wales, Fairfax in Queensland, Mallee and Melbourne in Victoria, Brand and Durack in Western Australia.
