Big Lab win in Castleford. Think it's about 76%, UKIP 17.1%, Con 4.1%, LD 1.6% Any actual number of votes?

Why is this the first I've heard of the EnglishElections blog? It hasn't been very well advertised on this forum... Which is suprising considering it is run by the same person who runs this forum. I only discovered it myself a couple of weeks back

Tories lose Cromer by-election & forced into 4th place by UKIP. Labour moves into 2nd. V well done by the @nn_labour team!

I am guessing that is a LD gain and a disaster for the Tories. We have seen LD gains in tory seats but this is starting to look a desperate trend as no real help from Labour there

Cromer's demographics aren't too favourable for Labour, but the CLP is a lot more active than you'd expect given the area.

Not so much a good result for Labour as a terrible one for the C. Like Chelmsford, it might be an omen for Eastleigh ... I wonder if the LD victor was one of the 'nutters' referred to in a post above, by EAL I think! He certainly seems a character.

Cromer Town result said to be: L Dem 558 Lab 240 UKIP 218 C 181 No question that win is very very impressive for the LD's and there must have been direct swappers from Tory, Green and a few labour A local issue at all ? or something we have seen in LD/Tory battles

So after all that crowing Labour's share is down by more than 4%. Probably worth waiting for the result before trying to analyse it. Looks like the LDs got a direct swing from the Tories as well as picking up some Labour and Green votes, but mostly a massive swing from Tory to UKIP
