Labour have gained the seat, which gives them majority control of South Lanarkshire for the first time since 2007.
Still awaiting full result.

Genuinely surprised by the LibDem vote in Rutherglen even with a candidate other than Robert Brown.

Lib Dems good at getting the vote out at by-elections/differential turnout, I presume.

Genuinely surprised by the LibDem vote in Rutherglen even with a candidate other than Robert Brown. See my post on Jan 17th where I said the LD's had another strong candidate . Someone from 400 miles away can often see something clearer than those on the scene .

I make the total votes of the bottom 5 candidates were 1,041 of which 543 were transferred (264 to Labour and 279 to Lib Dems) whilst 498 or 48% were not. The net effect of all this so called PR was almost nothing in this particular case. I know we have been here before, but according to the official result the final stage was Labour 2090, non transferable 1302 or 38% of the valid vote.
