Kevin Foster is Green Party councillor for Colburn ward on Richmondshire DC which is not in this division.

Again, the deceased indy was previously elected as a Conservative for Hawes and High Abbotside Ward. Pat Kirkbride was the Conservative candidate earlier this year.

I find it quite astonishing that nobody at all has made any comment on these 4 by-elections until almost up to eve of poll.I hardly think they are uniquely uninteresting! I suppose they are unlikely to offer much in the way of insight into the state of the nation at a crucial moment in our history. I am quite interested in the two Yorkshire ones, especially for the Hawes bit, a place I know well and love. We have been trying for a long time to prove a family connection with the place.  Eileen was an Iveson, and if you know Hawes at all well , there are Ivesons everywhere there. And of course we are all partial to a bit of Wensleydale. Anyway, I hope Hawes will remain as sturdily independent, even Independent, as ever.

With regard to the Yorkshire elections, Jill McMullon was the partner of the deceased councillor. I would guess this might see quite a bit of his vote carrying over to her...

Gravesham looks the most interesting one in terms of result.

Yes very surprising lack of comment. Gravesham is probably the most unpredictable, and therefore interesting. That could go either way. In Liverpool, I guess the question is can the Lib Dem’s inch up a bit and whether the Greens can get up to 25/30%?
Hawes is a lovely place, I had a holiday there in 2012. I think the fact that John Blackie had such a strong local champion type reputation and was rewarded with huge vote shares, means that his partner is likely to benefit from that and should be elected to both comfortably. Both John Blackie and Jill McMullion are ex Tories. I guess both the ward and the county division would be 70% Tory in a general election.
I always think a widow/ partner/ child of a deceased councillor  gets a boost in a local by election if it’s caused by a death.

Less interesting than usual or note, I shall be looking at the results with interest at 12:30, when I am setting off from school with 50 Year 9s on a trip to the First World War battlefields. The kids will probably keep me awake on the coach, so I might as well take a look at the results as they come in!

Having lived in Princes Park ward for a number of years before moving to my current location, I do not see this Ward as remotely likely to change hands.

Whilst some parts of the ward (the bits around princes park itself and some of the ward next to the university) are more favourable territory for greens and, in the past, lib dems, these parts do not make up the majority of the ward. Princes park as a whole is quite different to St Michael's and Greenbank.

Most of the ward, particularly the parts containing large black and Asian populations, will stay labour. These large parts of the ward will be enough to see labour comfortably home in this ward.

In very crude terms we have picked all the Independent votes and half of UKIP to convincingly beat Labour.  And that when the benefit (if any) of the Boris 'Great Deal' was quite unknown to all the postals and the further melt-down of UKIP still unknown.
