Doing to Wirral what they did to Liverpool would be unwise, perhaps.

Doing to Wirral what they did to Liverpool would be unwise, perhaps. Perhaps, but I think the experience of the two South Yorkshire boroughs which have changed and which both have a mixture of 2- and 3-member wards is that you do get better ward boundaries with the extra flexibility. I'm not convinced by the merits of changing to all-ups overall, but I think that is a point in their favour.

Wickersley would like a word Thurcroft & Wickersley South is pretty rubbish, true, but under the 2004-21 boundaries that part of Wickersley was in a ward (called Hellaby) with western Maltby, which isn't much better. And part of greater Wickersley was in the truly bizarre Silverwood ward, which also included Kilnhurst and parts of Rawmarsh.

I've just come from piloting my recommendation for the NYC review through Whitby Town Council. Phew! I'm always on the edge of extreme worry getting our recommendation through Full Council as I always worry that, after months of members having absolutely no interest in all the "in the loop" updates I keep people in, that somebody will pipe up "can we just change....". The deadline is in 33 days, no we can't "just" tinker with our submission. But, thankfully, just like last time, everybody just seemed to look completely bemused and voted it through.

Milton Keynes Draft boundaries published: www.lgbce.org.uk/all-reviews/milton-keynesThe draft is entirely based on the Lib Dem proposals, >99% alignment (and the 1% are probably improvements) I have to give a hat tip to East Anglian Lefty who has a proposal published today. When he (and Pete Whitehead) came up with suggestions on thread, we reviewed them both in our working group, and EAL's suggestion of what we've called "Broughton and Moulsoe" was genuinely new to us, a great idea in itself, and enabled the whole of the east side of MK to work neatly. Thank you! The other party proposals were published yesterday. The Tories proposals read like they were done in a rush; both their ideas break obvious areas up, and contain disconnected wards (one easily fixable, one not) They didn't manage to get any reasoning in so it's just a list of wards. The Labour proposal takes itself more seriously but there are a couple of crazy ideas in there and their text admits as much. Needless to say, the one thing both proposals do is butcher areas of Lib Dem wards! Unsurprisingly I think it's a very strong map with no obvious weaknesses; but grateful for any scrutiny you can give it.

They've made a mess of Barnsley (or more specifically, Penistone). The numbers work for three rural wards west of the M1, but they should've paired Dodworth with Silkstone rather than created that 'Dodworth, Stainborough & Tankersley' monstrosity.

I agree they've made a mess of west of the M1, but I strongly disagree about pairing Dodworth with Silkstone Common. Might have looked good on paper, but a very poor fit in real life. Instead they should have paired Tankersley with the western bits of Hoyland, and Dodworth with more of Pogmoor recognising that Dodworth essentially functions as part of Barnsley town.
