I know everyone’s in election mode, but I wonder if anyone could help me with a very specific query for a piece of writing. In the BBC coverage of the 1979 general election, I seem to remember David Dimbleby quoting Callaghan as having said Thatcher “wants to pull up old traditions by the roots” or similar. I’m sure I’ve seen the same quote elsewhere, but I can’t for the life of me find it. Am I imagining it completely, or does anyone know where I can find a reference to it? Ministerial broadcast by James Callaghan on 29th March 1979 (the night after the VOC was lost). You might recognize the name of the guy whose youtube channel this is.
The press reported that Mrs Thatcher made a 'low key' response to the broadcast saying (among other things) "We are the party of roots, of tradition. Paying your way is not tearing things up by the roots".

That’s a huge help, thank you! I’m an avid watcher of David’s channel so I’m sure that’s where I heard the quote originally.
