There's nothing wrong with being disappointed by an election result.

If the pattern of BJP leads in West Bengal looks a bit... er... familiar, that's because the West Bengal BJP is indeed comprised mostly of former Communists. My partner tells me it's effectively an Anyone but Didi vote. After the machine broke up they seem to have headed straight to the only other political force with a pulse. There have been cases of old Left slogans being chanted at BJP rallies. It's hilarious.

I'm trying desperately to work out in what way you think this is a great result but I give up. Modi's up there with Orban, Netanyahu, Duterte & Bolsonaro etc. And Erdogan, Trump, Shiniwatra Yep, I know, I support democratically elected politicians of the type you loathe. You support subverting democracy. I'm sure you won't object if I forever label you a Nationalist (obviously anti-immigration) pseudo-fascist sympathiser in future then? You are everything you hate.

One interesting thing is the extent to which the various anti-BJP alliances actually backfired. The SP-BSP alliance in UP seems to be a case in point: the SPs core constituency (Yadevs) seem to have been put out by an alliance with the hated BSP and so swung hard against the alliance.

BJP has strenghtened its grip on the "Aryans" by conquering parts of the E&NE. As a result a Dravidian reaction in the S&SE - coalescing around INC or a coalition of local parties - could emerge.
Not much scope for that outside Karnataka. The BJP won 0 seats in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, and just 4 out of 17 in Telangana.

Not much scope for that outside Karnataka. The BJP won 0 seats in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, and just 4 out of 17 in Telangana. Exactly because of this: BJP is quasi inexistent there and the 96/100 Dravidian seats (excluding Karnataka) are already now the biggest part of those ~200 for the opposition. Perhaps a local demagogue detects the opportunity and is able to assemble other Dravidian parties or BJP provokes a confrontation between the 2 LanguageFamilies in order to get instead of INC a more harmless MainChallenger?

Tbf I think Boogie has always argued in favour of economic migration - he takes the libertarian angle there and wants to be served by eager Eastern European adults rather than obnoxious British teenagers.

Oh I know which is entirely my point. He appears to be throwing his lot in with people whose counterparts in this country he espouses to despise.

In all fairness to the BBC, just clicking 'Asia' on their website automatically directs to the live election results.

India really needs to reapportion its seats and increase the lower house size to around 750, just in order to keep all seats to under 2 million in population. Though you'd probably need a grandfather clause for some states to do it.
