That's a weird government. Although yet again, the Swedish People's Party will go with anyone if they preserve their ludicrous linguistic agenda. A centre-left/centre coalition with the Conservative parties excluded seems perfectly logical to me.

As a minority language fan, what's ludicrous about their linguistic agenda? Anyway, as the one true Liberal party in Finland it makes perfect sense for them to be in this government. The problem lies with the "Mandatory Swedish" agenda, whereby every Finnish pupil and student (with some recent exceptions) has to study Swedish and, more egregiously, has to demonstrate by means of certification a civil servant-level of Swedish to be able to pass a tertiary course. This includes anyone working as a trawler captain or supervising a forestry site, for instance. Furthermore, it massively reduces flexibility- there isn't time to teach Russian, for instance, and this is a bone of contention in the eastern regions, where most people will never encounter a Swedish speaker in their lives. On the other hand is the Åland case. The People's Party are more than happy to support the law whereby Ålanders do not have to demonstrate competence in Finnish!

It's arguably the most eclectic government since Lipponen, who had Social Democrats, Left, Greens and the NCP all in together. It's also the first time the Centre have worked with the Social Democrats since 2007. Plus, Centre have managed to hold onto some seriously major departments.

Indeed finsobruce, as the speakers of Meänkieli could tell you, even if things have changed now.
