Helsinki and SubUrbs("Uusimaa") is behind in counting, so KOK will - despite solid losses there (to the GREENS) - rather certainly be second finally (ahead of PS). PS seems to have gained from KESK quite a lot in the rural&remote north.

PreDiction of the FinalResult for TV-channel YLE:
40 SDP 39 PS 38 KOK
Strong result for PS - who would have thought so some time ago?

Narrowly avoids the embarrassment of the populists coming first. I'm beginning to dread the Euro results across the continent...

Narrowly avoids the embarrassment of the populists coming first. I'm beginning to dread the Euro results across the continent... See it as an opportunity to rip off the bandage. Where they come first, they often fall back pretty quickly afterwards (see: M5S in Italy, FPO in Austria, and arguably Syriza, although the last of these three has behaved pretty responsibly in latter years). The old Soviet bloc paints a different picture, but it always has.

The 2 Others are
För Åland that has been re-elected in the Åland Islands. Wikipedia describes them as centrist-agrarian
Liike Nyt ry Uusimaa yhteislista, splinters from NCP

The old Soviet bloc paints a different picture, but it always has. Worth pointing out though that the True Finns and their predecessor party have a history dating back to the Fifties, and have been in government previously with minimal comment. They are a very different beast to many of the populists, although I accept there are some parallels to the FPOe.

Bearing in mind the earlier breakdown of the coalition, the elimination of the Finns fragment that continued in government and the stated unwillingness of the Centre Party to serve with the Finns (as now led) one would assume that there'll be a new coalition leaning slightly more to the left, perhaps led by the Social Democrats. Might take a while to put it together with a parliament as fragmented as this.
The Finns result was pretty impressive considering the chaos following their leadership election less than two years ago.

Finland adds itself the the depressingly large number of countries where the liberal centre has been destroyed to the benefit of populist right and left.

Finland adds itself the the depressingly large number of countries where the liberal centre has been destroyed to the benefit of populist right and left. By its very nature the National Coalition party must surely be regarded as somewhat in the Liberal Centre?? While not actually being the Centre party of course....
