I wonder if the Labour candidate in Millom Without ward adopted an anti-nuclear stance in 1995. The locals would have been bashing The Bishop ...

I wonder if the Labour candidate in Bootle ward adopted an anti-nuclear stance in 1995. The locals would have been bashing The Bishop ... That wasn't me (*) I was in Millom Without ward (you know this as you have mentioned it before) And I have always been pro nuclear power (and have said as much here) Corbyn's local interview on the subject before the 2017 byelection was not, it is fair to say, his most impressive moment (* our actual candidate there in 1995 nearly won, to the shock of themselves as well as everybody else)

Oh I should have checked - don't know why I thought Bootle, possibly because it was also a very narrow Tory hold then

Best resignation statement from a councillor for ages. I see she built a swimming pool! Getting your spade and trowel out for the local community shows true commitment!

Best resignation statement from a councillor for ages. I see she built a swimming pool! Getting your spade and trowel out for the local community shows true commitment! She was genuinely a very hard working councillor. One of those not overtly political but just does a lot of work for the community types. Both by elections in Somerset West and Taunton are in wards where the Lib Dem’s hold the other seats, but didn’t put up a full slate of candidates in May. Vivary ward was seen as the Lib Dems weakest in Taunton, ( and indeed was) so a sitting councillor who lost out in selections for some of their better wards stood here and was surprised to win.
