The logo that'll never die. It's had a bit of a makeover though, the red has changed to a pinky tone and the rosette appears fresh and new.

What colour will people like andrewteale, yorkshireluke, ElectionMapsUK and Sibboleth use if they ever need to colour somewhere in in SDP colours in a map? I also wonder what proportion of people who vote for them realise that they're essentially a UKIP splinter group.

(I used pale green for PC, SDLP and SNP, and dark green for Sinn Fein.) If the SDP had won seats in 1992 onwards, I would probably have continued using orange for LD and yellow for SDP.

5 candidates local to Newport, 4 elsewhere in Wales, 2 in England (of which Neil Hamilton can at least say he works in Wales). A unusually high 7 out of 11 not giving their address.

So:
- No independents of any sort, let alone anyone affiliated with TIG. - No intentionally frivolous candidates. - Four candidates from UKIP and its splinters, counting the current incarnation of the SDP as such.

No Official Monster Raving Loony, the first such example for many a decade. Have I misunderstood you? There have been a few by-elections in recent years with no OMRLP candidate, most recently West Tyrone (did they ever bother with Norn Iron?) and Copeland. Anyway, I'm sure the SDP will be relieved by their absence.

Interesting, do you think they are a UKIP splinter, from my experience on Twitter, I'd guess membership something like. 40% Conservative 20% UKIP 20% Labour 20% New to party politics

The group in Sheffield who stood in the 2017 election were also ex-UKIP.

I would say looking at that list with the state of the major parties and the Brexiteers bashing each other over the head with spades, Amelia Womack might not be a bad bet to sneak in under the radar,if the odds were right, and if I was a betting hedgehog, which I'm not.

It's quite an interesting dynamic, as basically they claim to be Blue Labour, but I can see them pushing further to the right economically.

I would predict at least 7 lost deposits... possibly up to 9, more likely 8.

Although the Vale of Glamorgan by-election of 1989 (also caused by the death of a long-serving MP, in that instance Sir Raymond Gower) also had 11 candidates, the Newport West by-election has 11 different parties.
