I wonder, incidentally, if the reason for moving the writ now is actually to stop one of the ERG moving it on 12 March. They could thereby filibuster the EU debate, prevent a decision, and force a 'no deal' Brexit on 29 March.

There is no such rule and they just make themselves look unprepared by protesting. Labour candidate is Ruth Jones, who was previously selected for the next general election. Well that tweet hardly implies that they're 'protesting', they're merely stating that they're surprised Labour moved the writ before Flynn's funeral which is a very uncommon thing to do. Plus the Tories won't win anyway so the exact date of the by-election probably isn't of huge concern to them.

LDCaerdydd, in paging me, may have been alluding to the fact that Labour did exactly this in Crewe & Nantwich in 2008. I didn't like it then; I don't like it now. It's hard not to see a cynical motive.

It's also worth remembering that some funerals are held within a week/ten days (with 24/48 hours with some religions), and some like Gwyneth Dunwoody's took place almost a month later. No idea when Paul Flynn's is. But this might be another reason to support taking the timings out of the hands of political parties.

That would be Renew's first parliamentary candidate I think. Lots of their members stood as Independents in 2017 though.

Presumably the bookies won't take bets on Gwlad/ Ein Gwlad/ Gwlad Gwlad because they are so likely to win ...

On the subject of the timing of the election, he's been ill for a while hasn't he? I'm sure they've been planning it all whilst he was still alive. (I would like to imagine so)

I've made some enquiries and, if you so choose, you can bet on Ein Gwlad over the phone with at least one bookie. My ex colleague seemed somewhat confused though, not even realising that there was a by election in the offing and initially assuming it was Brexit related.
Personally, I'd try and get a price out of Ladbrokes and see how long it takes them to panic about over exposure.

That is a clever bookie who will make free money on that - because Ein Gwlad/Gwlad Gwlad will not be standing. We have consistently stated that we will not stand for Westminster.

Saucer of milk, sir? W-e-e-e-l-l. 4-pages of garbage on a non-existent entity of 2-men and an alleged Welsh-speaking dog that take months to not get registered and try to get a one or two word name correct. This is witless nonsense.
