To encourage local activists to take part. There's an anecdote about David Penhaligon helping to stuff envelopes at a by-election. Someone asked if him that was really the most productive use of an MP's time. He replied "As long as I stay, you're not going to leave, are you?" Ha! well maybe. Doesn't seem to work in my experience. Especially if you're dealing with Diane Abbott who doesn't turn up anyway.
Dearly as I love Catherine it would take more than her presence in a committee room to keep me there.
Bonus for you there.

Someone asked if him that was really the most productive use of an MP's time. He replied "As long as I stay, you're not going to leave, are you?" In my experience we get a few extra bodies turning out that we don’t usually see, an interview in the local newspaper and maybe local radio station which reminds voters there’s an election on, and some useful pics you can use on future leaflets. If the Shad Cab member has some “star power” it helps - I recall David Blunkett coming to us, and his guide dog was a bigger draw than any human.

It is helpful for us all that not only is she astoundingly thick and stupid but helpfully looks and sounds astoundingly thick and stupid. If she tried a bit harder she could be a black female Chis Williamson. Or is that going just a tad too far?

I think you are over estimating how many people pay attention to visits by shadow ministers. Id be surprised if they knew or cared What's the point of them then? someones got to feel important

Well, it's been an eventful morning on the campaign. So far, we've had the Twitter account "bluestroud" accuse Liz of being out with a "known Labour troll", and somebody has destroyed one of our poster stakes - as in broken the stake and slashed the board with a knife!

Reckon the "gammons" lost their cool after their idol's Facebook and Insta was shut down.

Well while you are all waiting with great excitement for the result, I will just report that a long time ago John Smithson was the leader of Pendle Borough Council.

Berkeley is about three or four miles from my house. I can see it out of the window. Would be a pleasant walk. The only problem is that the R.Severn is in the way

STROUD Berkeley Vale GREEN, Lindsey Jane (Conservative) 993 ASHTON, Liz (Labour) 686 STAYTE, Mike (Liberal Democrats) 231 WILLETTS, Thomas William Edward (Green) 82 Percentages look pretty much unchanged from last time, which given our resources and the efforts put in by Lab and Con I'll take. (Not sure how you calculate percentages for multi-member wards - do you work from the aggregates or from the score of best candidate?)

The 'correct' way of doing it is largely a matter of personal taste

I would agree with Pete re a matter of taste but I think, on this occasion, it should be top candidate. As indicated in the opening briefing, 3 of the candidates were the ‘top’ person for their party last time round. Any personal vote last time should therefore logically apply this time as well.
