I suspect that the result is down to a very energetic campaign from us (which bodes well for a few seats potentially in East Northants, an area where we have been all but moribund, in May), the County Council being the most complete basket case of any council in the country, and that's a true effort to be that(!) and the week we've just had which will start to feed through I suspect in results in the next few weeks and if nothing improves, into May.
There will be no elections in May throughout Northamptonshire as there will be all out elections for two new Unitaries in 2020. This was a by-election for an existing authority to serve until 2020. |

The last few Cardiff by elections for the council haven't been good for Labour? Anything locally going on there? Complacency, arrogance, sense of entitlement.... The bus station, development of land in the city, closure of popular recycling centres, a history of warfare within Labour....... |

I dont think that is true Penddu, a lot of work including Adam Price showing up - was put into this election Plaid did not want to lose.

How did one pronounce this weeks by elections? Is Cardiff Ely eely or eel-eye? Is Oundle oondle or owndle? The Welsh name is Trelái which suggests eel-eye. |

Well by one measure (*) in Cardiff West is a very narrowly contested constituency a knife edge between Plaid and Labour. *National Assembly election Plaid came close to winning it, and in the Locals Plaid got more votes than any other party in the constituency (admittedly by one method of calculating votes in a multi ward multi member ward constituency). |

I dont think that is true Penddu, a lot of work including Adam Price showing up - was put into this election Plaid did not want to lose. I would be pleasantly surprised if Plaid (central office) did put up a proper fight in Ely, and have a lot of time for Adam Price who is light years ahead of Leanne. But i suspect that Plaid were triggered into action by Neil M. If Neil hadnt thrown himself into the fight then it would have been a very different story. |
