I am led to believe that several Lab Cllrs are very unhappy with some budget proposals, which could be interesting. Will they abstain, vote against, or simply not turn up?! I'm also aware that UKIP will vote any which way in order to inflict damage on Labour (there's principles for you!). Am unsure how the Conservative and LibDem amendments will go.....but it will be an interesting night!

You'll have to find an issue on which Labour (29 councillors) are on one side, and the other side unites the Conservatives (15), Liberal Democrats (6), UK Independence Party (5), ex-Labour Independents (3) and Green Party (1). Lunatic politicking in the Potteries has a curious way of making people forget their differences!

I have always associated the potteries with Burslem - and Burslem only - when I discovered it was where some of my ancestors lived and worked in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The census returns for the area at the time make a fascinating read.

It can also be quite scary at the wrong time of day or night. Middleport is worse, Shelton worse still and Goldenhill just weird.
