Another subject but it will be fascinating to see how Sinn Fein handle government in the Republic if theye are able to form a left-led coalition. They appear to be moving towards becoming a more orthodoX left wing party but how much of their past comes with them awaits evidence I agree. It'll be interesting to see if they are forced to make decisions which are winners in Dublin and loathed in their heartlands in Louth and Kerry, and vice versa- and how they deal with them. This is what might be interesting - they are doing well in Dublin - taking a lot of the Labour vote - but also in areas like Donegal which have a radical tradidion which Labour have never managed to win over. Hence their current percentage support is more than Labour have ever managed

The new generation of Sinn Fein can then take the party forward without a lot of the past baggage, or at least not being stained by the past.

To a large extent that is what is happening in the south - given the fact that the party has expanded so quickly there.

A coordinated move of five councillors is not a spontaneous act of frustration nor some kind of moral stand.

Five councillors would normally be two-and-a-half braces... perhaps they have some weird bumpkiny counting system in Norfolk

Five councillors would normally be two-and-a-half braces... perhaps they have some weird bumpkiny counting system in Norfolk I only wish it were some weird counting system relating to West Norfolk as we denizens of the county love nothing more that to differentiate the west as not normal even for Norfolk, however that is wholly down to my ignorance on the brace as a term of measurement.
Based on Wincarnate's observation I can but regret I didn't use look at what's been found at low tide on the Great Ouse as a better by-line?

We need a collective noun for a group of kippers. I suggest 'A Herringbone'.

Part of me longs for a by-election in Angus where UKIP do really badly so we can see the headline "Arbroath Smokes Kippers"

Always remember when you see those results come in that we have never done well there, but your former party held most of it and your current 'leaning' is being eased out of it as well. Beware what you wish for.

I'm still surprised that no sports writer, when faced with Vincent Kompany receiving a red card, has gone for Bad Kompany.
