Andrew Barrett, Con to Ind (May 2014), Ind to UKIP (Sep 2014), Cheshire East Council, Odd Rode Ward. This takes the political composition of Cheshire East Council, following all of the recent defections, to: Con. 50 Lab. 14 LibDem 4 Middlewich First 3 Handforth Ratepayers 2 Nantwich Independent 2 UKIP 2 Vote Independent 2 Crewe West End Socialist Independent 1 Independent 1 Shavington First 1 This forum bloody loves it when a council does this. andrewteale may not be so keen.

Or 'Principled' and 'Unprincipled' separate threads. See the 'Unprincipled' rack up many pages whilst the principled stays at 1 or 2 pages. One, apparently, for the 'principled' list, but not previously reported on this thread: Malcolm Grimston, Con to Wandsworth Independent Alliance, West Hill Ward, Wandsworth www.putneysw15.com/shared/issuesouthfieldslib002.htm..... Or is there more to this story than meets the eye? To have an alliance you really need more than one person. Reminds me of the Spitting Image Gang of One sketch. I guess you could define it as a loose alliance between the councillor in question and his sanity. The issue on which he is resigning (alleged library closure) is simply nonsense. Wandsworth council are spending £20K on a new roof to keep the building operational FFS so its pretty clear that there are plans for the library in the long term. Its a case of get elected under the popular local banner and then scoot off asap on an issue which is basically fictional. Well at the very least you would have to be doing a Boothroyd to word it in a sense that it was true. Truth of the matter is I think he had enough of being part of a whipped group. He is an academic who is not used to being told what to do.

"Cllr Fox added: “I am now convinced that only Labour are the real party of the people in North Warwickshire.""
If you put this into Google translate it comes up with "I am now convinced that Labour is the only label under which people in North Warwickshire will re-elect me next May"

She kept her seat by 18 votes in 2011 (788 to 770), in a split ward (Con 2/Lab 1).

Paul Moss, deselected Labour councillor for North Reddish on Stockport Council, has announced he is to sit as an Independent, as he wishes to oppose building on Reddish Vale Park. I used to play on Reddish Vale and am opposed to any building on it and members of my family are in support of the campaign, but Cllr Moss's reasoning is, to say the least, disingenuous, given his recent deselection. Why didn't he quit before - this issue hase been hot for a while. Defector Paul Moss says that Stockport's Labour Leader is a "cancer" and likens him to Kim Jong Un. "I think he's sick" is the Labour Group Leader's response. www.mancunianmatters.co.uk/content/291071414-stockport-labour-leader-cancer-needs-be-cut-out-claims-councillor-who-quit-overWhen politics gets personal, civility can easily be lost. In some Councils, comments such as these can lead to misconduct charges.

"At the root of treegate..." They couldn't resist could they? I also like that an advert for a tree surgeon appears half way down the first article.

31 to 13 I know many Group Leaders who would love that level of instability.

Do these independents gang up together? Certainly at one point the Nantwich Independents and Middlewich First were chummy and I believe formed a single Independent Group. The Handforthians have been around for ages and I suspect act independently. The West End Socialist and one Independent are recent Labour deselections. The fractious nature of Cheshire East I think reflects its artificiality as a unit of administration.
