"Follow Following Unfollow Blocked Unblock Pending Cancel Plaid - Ceredigion @plaidceredigion Sep 9
A warm welcome to @amykitcher, former Lib Dem parliamentary candidate who has joined Plaid today. Lots in Ceredigion making the same switch."

I hope so.
She's a proven winner....
Chucked out as a Merthyr councillor after one term and single handedly influenced the whole of Wales not to vote UKIP in the recent EU elections

Helen Douglas, Lab to Con in York. Deselection related.
It appears that someone in Stoke has resigned over child protection issues.

Why we should take her is IMHO baffling. Labour clearly made the correct decision to deselect but have paid a heavy price for doing so.

I am very suspicious when people defect after deselection.
Usually, councillors only get deselected if they have fallen out with their local party
And here it looks as if we have someone who has claimed to be unhappy for a long time then did nothing until deselection occurred

Funny how these people who are deselected and then switch to another party rather than go independent never seek a new mandate in a by-election...

I do appreciate people can change their mind.
We have a councillor here who was a Tory and switched to us. He knew that he wouldn't hold his own seat, but opted for a winnable seat which he took off the LibDems. Nowadays you wouldn't realise he was ever a Tory unless you knew beforehand.
I recall an edition of Wife Swap some time back with a Tory councillor couple who had very liberal views on child rearing, and just about everything! After the programme they both resigned from the Conservatives, joined Labour, and one of them is still a Labour councillor on Sandwell council

And a Liberal Democrat councillor who was herself Labour candidate for the constituency before defecting over Iraq, Julia Wassall, has now left the LibDems, taking another councillor with her and forming an East Wycombe Independent group. To make it even more complicated she is also a County Councillor, but the LibDem group there have allowed her to stay in the group even though she is no longer in the party. This is her fourth party as she started off as a Green - indeed she was a Green when I first met her many years ago www.bucksfreepress.co.uk/news/11310322.Support_pours_in_for_new_independent_councillors/Good to know she has the support of her "continuants".

Good to know she has the support of her "continuants". Is that electors who have bladder control? It would be helpful given that she seems to be a bit politically incontinent herself....

To make it even more complicated she is also a County Councillor, but the LibDem group there have allowed her to stay in the group even though she is no longer in the party. That's because the group isn't just a LD group but included the sole Labour councillor, presumably because Labour couldn't form a group alone and the LDs don't amount to much now either. The groups is now styled 'Liberal Democrat, Independent & Buckingham Labour'. The Independent councillor for West Wycombe (who was elected as such) sits in a group with the UKIP councillors

I thought she would have gone back to the Greens. There is now speculation as to whether her LibDem ward colleague on the District, who also left Labour at the same time, is going to join her as an independent.

The Stoke defection is Janine Bridges who has said she will serve as a Non Aligned until whole council elections in May (no word that I can see on whether she will stand for re-election). She claims Labour "condoned" the events in Rotherham. However I would add she was originally elected as a City Independent and joined Labour only weeks before selections for the 2011 elections and was soundly defeated when she stood for Deputy Leader of the Labour Group a couple of months ago.

no actual defections (yet) but one has to wonder on the effect of This on Bradford, especially given the various independent groups currently available

Vaughn Jones, Labour to Independent in Inverclyde. Labour have now lost overall control of the council as a result. Apparently, it's connected to her intention to vote Yes next week.

Unless I've missed another change, Labour only had 50% of the seat(10 out of 20) before this defection, so never had overall control, strictly speaking.
