Reported that Carol Shaw, Lib Dem, Brent, Brondesbury Park, has returned to the Conservatives, having defected the other way in 2003. She's topped the poll in 2002(Tory)and 2006 and 2010(as a Lib Dem) several hundred votes ahead of the second and third candidates from her party. www.kilburntimes.co.uk/news/brent_liberal_democrat_councillor_defects_to_the_conservative_party_1_2229163“There were a lot of promises that didn’t materialise such as the tuition fees and the boundary changes the list goes on an on. They just didn’t deliver."??I didn't realise the Tory position on tuition fees was any different to the LD one at present.

Giving the timing of her previous defection, perhaps she was always a Tory really but wanted to be on the winning side, and now that Teather may well be on the way out she's going back to the Tories.

I think she is in Hampstead and Kilburn parliamentary seat not Teathers.

The theory is still applicable though. At the time she originally defected her ward was in Brent East and she appears to have defected just after Sarah Teather won the by-election there. Brondesbury Park is basically a Tory ward

She defected in the final fortnight of the byelection, I risoed a shed load of leaflets about it. She was a gift horse we couldn't refuse and I suspect made the difference. But even then had a reputation as to being hard work.

Lord Storey, LibDem former Liverpool City Council Leader, wants the LibDems to stand aside in his favour Er, what makes him think that thousands of potential Lib Dem supporters might be prepared to vote for a petulant little nincompoop like him anyway?

Given that the thought of coalition with the Lib Dems 'made him vomit' this would be unlikely to be welcome on either side

I feel sorry for the kid (I doubt he would want my sympathy though). I think that the fact that it ever got near this point reflects poorly on the MP and even on the rest of the local Labour establishment to a lesser extent.

Er, what makes him think that thousands of potential Lib Dem supporters might be prepared to vote for a petulant little nincompoop like him anyway? Hatred of labour, especially of that Jewish princessI think it best to stay off terminology like that, personally speaking......

I was tempted to suggest changing it to Islington but when I looked her up on wiki found no reference to that place. I didn't know she was Manny Shinwell's Great Niece before though.

As I happens I know Luciana a bit and think she's pretty good, but the problem of MPs and their retinue regarding Councillors as cannon-fodder is a problem for all parties to a greater or lesser degree. I don't think it's particularly immature for a Councillor to complain when dressed down by an MP for knocking on doors in their ward without "the approved script". All a bit 1997.

Glad to hear your opinions on someone you have never met, John. Your description is entirely inaccurate.

I think Luciana is everything wrong with my party. Deselection was invented for people like her Otherwise I concur with all you say. Some of us would happily tell those who try and make us use a script to bog off, and do.

I think if we used terms like Paki Princess we would rightly be dressed down even if their big issue was Kashmir. Quid pro quo.
