I wonder if anyone has done a study. When I worked for Devon CC, I heard all the time that church schools were better but the evidence contradicted that. Admittedly, it depends on what you're looking for, I don't particularly value the expressive arts for example. Maybe people like the moral ethos. In my experience kids who have been to papist schools tend to have superior social skills and interact much better with their elders. The priests are good at interacting with them from an early age...

Many like the concept of selection. But when it is introduced and their children fail the test they are apt to turn against it dramatically. This was demonstrated when the Conservatives won control of Tameside around 1975 on a platform of bringing back grammar schools. They did make a complete balls-up of the process but for every winner there were three or four losers in the selection process. The Conservatives were promptly kicked out of office and haven't had a sniff since.

It's goodbye, so long, farewell to the concept of a UKIP majority council - another UKIP councillor on Thanet has defected to the Democratic Independent Group, and the council now has no overall majority. UKIP likely to stay in control in practice. The new defector is Jeff Elenor (Margate Central ward). He's also a Kent County Councillor for Margate West division but appears still to be in the UKIP group there (don't know if anyone knows a UKIP Kent County Councillor who can confirm?). www.kentonline.co.uk/thanet/news/ukip-loses-thanet-council-majority-44673/

The Conservatives have lost overall control of Rugby Borough Council following the resignation of the whip by David Ellis (Wolston & the Lawfords). He was opposed to the council continuing discussions over whether to join the proposed West Midlands Combined Authority. He's choosing to sit as an Independent rather than as a member of the Independent Group (mostly likely because of the historical grudge between the Rugby Conservatives and the husband and wife team who make up the Independent Group following their own defection from the Conservatives). Balance on the council is now: Conservative - 21 Labour - 9 Liberal Democrat - 8 Independent Group - 2 Independent - 1 Independent Socialist - 1 source

Unsurprising. He hasn't been in the Greens or the SNP yet (or the Pirates), so he needs to move on if he wants the full set. Then presumably NI calls.... Bit late for PSP though ...
