Looking at his twitter I can see several tweets related to it going back to the 25th. Where? There's a lot of stuff about how he dislikes the situation of the party at present but where does he refer to his own membership? Sorry, can only access twitter on phone Aug 25 - @yvettecoopermp voted for you but have now cancelled membership as @uklabour still intent on imploding instead of listening to all wings Aug 26 - @revoltingmorgan membership lapsed Monday. Don't wish to be associated with party condoning indiscipline, pettiness, underhand deals 4 power. Aug 29 - @aganovicalma still a Councillor in Longbridge, no longer a member of @uklabour or part of Birmingham Labour Group. I'm independent Cllr <thumbs up> Need any more?

He seems much more fed up with his treatment locally as well as with the rancour of the leadership election, looking back

Now, now, at least he's not on the record as saying 'I never made any pretense of being a democrat'.

He seems much more fed up with his treatment locally as well as with the rancour of the leadership election, looking back I was thinking of writing a poem to that effect but I couldn't think of anything that rhymed with 'rancour'. (Apologies to Frankie Howerd)

The famous exchange in the Commons when Roy Jenkins made his resignation speech to become an EU Commissioner.
Jenkins (who could not say his Rs): "I leave without rancour".
Skinner: "I thought you were taking Marquand".
["not" now inserted of course]

Oh no he couldn't. ...
Even though I'm a left winger I have always admires Roy Jenkins. He had social attitudes way before his time and I am quite sure that without his determination many of the progressive social attitudes now pursued by most parties and most people would have been a lot slower in developing.
Best Home Secretary we ever had.

He was not my cup of tea really but I agree -and he was well ahead of his time on the kind of identity issues which are now top of the agenda.
He also bought quite a few books from me...

I always had a lot of respect for Woy..
He was standing for the leadership of Labour and carried out an interview in the tennis court in his back garden. That is style!

Although perhaps not very smart. To be honest, I doubt if it lost him any support. Anyone likely to be swayed was never going to vote for him regardless.

I just missed him being "my" leader of the LD peers - by the time I arrived he had recently handed over to Bill Rodgers, in the rather odd "Gang of Four" succession we had until Shirley gave up. Roy was too right wing for my tastes other than human rights issues, Bill was altogether better than people give him credit for, Shirley was a brilliant Liberal. I use the word advisedly. (She has of course "Catholic tastes" on some issues but never tried to impose them on anyone else).
Tony
...or should I say "gang of three"...

If he makes such deliberately controversial statements he can't really be surprised at the outcome. It's clear that Davidson's party has very little time for this sort of approach
