Apparently it has to do with dissatisfaction at the split of committee seats. I'd imagine though that two groups would mean less seats if anything. Not necessarily - proportionality and rounding up/down can produce some odd situations. For example on KCC, when UKIP lost a byelection to the Tories the result was an extra seat for Labour, at our expense. If the ruling party had stitched up the allocations in a way that kept UKIP off an important committee, it is quite feasible that by having two groups an extra seat would be available and would be on a particular committee. |

Solihull becoming the new Stoke ? The thing that prevents this being the case is that all the changes and defections are happening among the opposition parties. The Tories have a solid majority and it is hard to see that changing for several years. |
