Cllr David Stringer (Lab-Ravenscliffe Ward,Newcastle Borough Council) goes Independent So Labour goes from 29/60 to 28/60? And the new Council Leader (Labour, but ex-Lib Dem) voted in by Labour + Lib Dem (who were previously in a Con + Lib Dem coalition) may be in for a short term of office. Or not .....

I'm not a councillor, nor am I notable. Nor have I defected. But I am about to become an active member of Banbury Conservatives rather than a non-active member of Lewisham Deptford Conservatives.
(I exchanged on a house today, so am finally about to be a homeowner)
It was either here or the 'useless facts' thread. Here seemed more gnomic.

Congratulations and every success with the moving and settling in. Good luck to Banbury Cons!

You are relatively close to Towcester and, therfore, racing with me.

Or not.
It is North Staffordshire after all.
I now learn that Cllr Stringer has indeed moved to the Lib Dems. Hurrah!

They do appear to be extremely right wing.

They do appear to be extremely right wing. I've met them both several times, quite moderate IMHO.

What happens to the remaining independent in Rhiwbina?

The third independent is staying as an independent.
It does bring up the question about the independent 'group' which was made up of the 3 x Rhiwbina Cllrs and Gareth Holden in Gabalfa (who defected from the LDs in 2013ish) they formally sat as a group and got a scrutiny chair out of it. I'm guessing that group has now collapsed.
I have already heard it suggested that Jayne Cowen would be a good choice for the Conservative nomination for the Assembly in Cardiff North.
Jayne Cowen indecently used to promote the fact that in 2008 she was the only Councillor in Wales to get over 3,000 votes, in 2012 all three of them got 3,000+ votes.

The real point is MM isn't really *that* left wing, just his bark is worse than his bite. I suspect he would agree

Fran Oborski has defected from the Liberal Party to the Liberal Democrats. She was very unhappy with the Liberal Party and UKIP deal in the South West.
I sometimes I wonder about how well these pages refresh as I didn't see Anthony's post above.
