17 years ago was 1998, but that feels like yesterday. I feel remarkably old all of a sudden.

Didn't he say he'd like to be a parliamentary candidate?

Does anyone get the impression that East Hertfordshire DC may not stay long in the condition of being one of only two 100% Conservative councils? I ask because Ben Harris-Quinney (Braughing ward) is in a spot of difficulty, not least over the fact that he doesn't appear to be a member of the Conservative Party. There is also his contribution to the gay rights debate. People may remember his amusing appearance on Andrew Neil's show during the election, in which he portrayed the character of the Chairman of the Bow Group.

That last paragraph doesn't really sound like a Tory quote.

Not just for the bonkers views, but also for the chutzpah of a lobbyist warning about the nefarious aims of an imaginary lobby.
