Stockport, Marple South & High Lane (2026). Aron Thornley, Independent (elected as Liberal Democrat) to Labour. This is not going to go down well with the High Lane side, unless he fights ridiculously hard for the ward.

Both had resigned the Conservative whip and formed the 'Southend Independent Group' only a few weeks ago.

His ward is in South Basildon & East Thurrock. It'll be interesting to see if there's a pattern with future defections being more common in areas where they've got MPs.

Kingston-upon-Thames, Coombe Vale (2026). Kamala Kugan, Independent (elected as Liberal Democrat) to Community Voice & Green Independent - Member of The Opposition Group 56 days ago she was Ed Davey's Lib Dem candidate in Stalybridge and Hyde. Now she's opposing Ed Davey in his own constituency. What happened? Suggests at the very least a lack of candidate vetting. Or was the promise of a parliamentary run the last throw of the dice to try and keep her in the tent?

The three Reform UK councillors on Torfaen council are listed as "Individual Independent" and not Reform UK.

Obviously - but why pick someone so flaky? I've also heard that she was subject to some internal complaints at the time. It seems very strange when they could have simply pickednany number of dull, loyal functionaries.

I think you are overestimating the number of people who want to stand for the Lib Dems in a no hope seat. As we saw with the Conservatives as well, in many cases it was just pick any warm body who volunteered.

That approval then means you are available for selection. The approval in this case could have been some years ago.
