First elected in 2004 for Dalston ward in Carlisle, and the sole Lib Dem on that council from 2014 to 2022.

One has to wonder if he plays nicely with other children having literally been the party on the old council for so long. Now the Lib Dems actually have to take account of other areas (which is essentially what he alludes to) it appears to have stuck in a craw.

I see that , unsurprisingly, the two Tory rebels in Ashford who voted for the Ashford Independent as leader rather than their own man, Cllrs Andrew Buchanan and Bill Barrett, are now listed on the ABC website as Independent. Not (as yet) as Ashford Independents. Does take the Conservatives down to 17, though.
(apologies if that has been reported elsewhere , but not as far as I could see, and my internet was down for the last 3 days).
edit- corrected for spelling Conservative with a b instead of an n.
I do like the idea of a cobservative, though.

He sat as an Independent for quite some time on Cumbria County Council whilst sitting as the only LD on Carlisle City Council.

Your gran's name was Barry? Yes, a common Irish surname. As in the tea brand and the writer, Sebastian, among others.

And a fourth defection in Peterborough Wittering councillor Gavin Elsey has confirmed he has left the Conservative Party and joined the 'Peterborough First' group with the three other defectors. Elsey was also chairman of the North West Cambridgeshire Conservative Association until last year. The fracturing of Peterborough Conservatives continues. Councillor Mohammed Farooq (Hargate and Hempsted ward) was suspended by the party in May. He was re-admitted but has now quit the party due to a "bullying, toxic culture", followed by his son, Cllr Saqib Farooq and ward-colleague Cllr John Howard (cabinet member for adult social care and public health). Seven defections since the May elections. www.cambsnews.co.uk/news/breaking/third-and-biggest-name-quits-tory-group-on-peterborough-council/11252/

Having checked out the picture in the Stray Ferret website I can confirm that this is the Mike Jordan who is national Chair of the Mk 1 Cortina Owners Club. I have met him a few times over the years. He is very 'sound' when it comes to Cortinas; I couldn't possibly comment about his politics!
