By my reckoning there have been 25 Conservative Councillors defecting since the beginning of October and 13 Labour, mostly to Independent.

I wonder how many have found their final strong card - that they alone would be able to get the ten signatures in their district ward unaided - now dud?

None of that surprises me. I joined the party in 1959 before the GE, and the Primrose League, The League of Empire Loyalists, Martell's the National Fellowship (selling the New Daily on the doorsteps) and but for the tactical withdrawal was in it until this year and reckon on about 60-years of being a member. Now it is eviscerated and shredded. There are very few policies in the last 3-decades that I fully supported and dozens I completely opposed. It is just not worth supporting on the basis of it 'Being Not Labour'! It has nothing else to offer. Well.....that's about it really isn't it? I dread Labour getting in to government but will it be any worse? The treasury has now deemed that 6% of it's staff should be Black. Really......and why is that? I don't actually care if they are all black provided that they are there on merit but what they are proposing is some kind of equality of outcome set up, which means you have to fiddle the figures. I still think they'll find ways to make it worse. Might take a second term but they'll get there.

We already had Anthony Hutchinson on North East Derbyshire going Con to Ind but we appear to have missed an earlier Con to Ind in Roger Hall, Dronfield Woodhouse. This means North East Derbyshire is now technically NOC. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-derbyshire-63954248

Hutchinson sounds like he's in the Councillor Party.

That's not a full story. It's a very generic defection statement.

Bury, Tottington (2023). Iain Gartside, Independent (elected as Conservative) to Conservative. It may not be a coincidence that Iain Gartside is up for re-election next year.

This is linked to accusations of bullying against the Hon. Member for Telford.

That's not a full story. It's a very generic defection statement. There is now a fuller version of the story. Still not entirely clear what the problem was, but it seems like Cllr Nissen had a falling out with Cllr Goacher over "acceptable conduct" and her leaving is linked to him rejoining the Green group (he had been sitting as an independent).
