I believe this may be a short term suspension of the whip by the local group.

Conwy UA, a couple of Labour councillors have left the group in protest after the group leader ousted a party colleague from a comittee chair. They are Ronnie Hughes (Tudno) and Mike Priestley (Marl); Hughes was Council Leader between 1999-2004, whilst Priestley previously sat with the Lib Dems and was the Labour candidate for Aberconwy at the 2016 Assembly elections. Councillors quit after group leader accused of 'awarding himself pay-rise' - North Wales LiveThe headline kind of distorts the story, but according the article there was a vote amongst the council's Labour group members over who should occupy their committee seat, and three members were denied a vote over unpaid subscriptions (as per party rules), and the chair receives an extra ~£9k pa pay-rise. Another & minor follow up to this little saga, Mike Priestley has now joined the Conwy First Independent Group, leaving Ronnie Hughes as the only remaining councillor who is not a member of any of the other groups.

You can explain it over and over again as much as you want, they'll still get put in this thread because it's the best place for them.

Or you could always create a separate "suspensions" thread and put them in there?

Point out what exactly, David? They have been suspended from holding office in the Labour Party not suspended from the Labour whip. In other words and for the slow learners here, they may not take any responsibility within the Labour Party. But they are still required to obey the Labour whip on the council and discharge the obligations they entered into on becoming a Labour councillor. So they still count in the Labour column. They have not defected or changed allegiance. (And that's reasonable. Why should being suspected of wrongdoing suddenly free you from the policy pledges you gave to the electors which secured your election?) Cakeism, pure and simple. They're not Labour when the local rag wants to run a LABOUR SLEAZE headline, but they are Labour when it counts. Perhaps you could reclassify them as the Co-operative Party?

It would make more sense to just change the thread title to "defections and suspensions". Different parties will have different rules about how suspended members are treated and media reports are often not specific about the exact status of the individual concerned.

When he gets in his playpen over these matters he just becomes an even more tedious complete tosser than normal. Well, in his case there is no 'normal' of course!!!

Oh please don't spoil things. It is so much more fun with the childish and much-looked-forward-to stupid responses. These are grim times. Don't spoil it all.
