Craig Hannaway (Saltburn, Redcar and Cleveland) from Lab to Ind. He applied to Labour selection for Hartlepool. He claims he has been thrown out for criticizing Williams dropping out of the PCC race to join the by-election race. He claims being a Labour member at the moment is “not very good for your mental health" Council group leaders say he is saddened. Labour North say they can't comment further. www.gazettelive.co.uk/news/teesside-news/labour-councillor-overlooked-hartlepool-election-20247353The article sums up very well what is wrong with the Labour party - and right now, I think that it would be better if the Conservatives took the seat in the by-election.

A number of the deselected Labour councillors in Sandwell have made noises about "not ruling out" standing, presumably as Independents, Joyce "whatever label will help me hold my seat" Underhill in Newton amongst them - same happened last time, but none of the deselected councillors got re-elected, though a couple of Labour councillors were then thrown out of the Labour group for allegedly supporting the deselected independents

Is Alba a 'progressive' party? Sure, the website talks of 'the building of an economically successful and socially-just independent country, through the pursuit of a social-democratic programme', but that's pretty vague.

Yes, I don't get how you shoehorn people with the 'tartan tory' appeal of Salmond and then Tommy Sheridan into the same party.

When independence is the overriding aim, you can get away with an awful lot of ideological differences.
In Catalonia the Junts party managed to put together a coalition of christian democrats, liberals, greens, progressives, and social democrats for the last regional election.
Also look at Vote Leave (not a political party, but essentially a group fighting a single campaign on a single issue much like Alba I suspect).

I suspect we're seeing the Brexit Party Scottish nationalist style as all manner of people who support one thing and can't support the existing party flock together before there's time to nail down just what the party offers beyond the single issue. (For that matter Salmond has also followed the Farage approach to getting the party registered on the quiet rather than the [Whatever They Were Called That Week] approach of publicly announcing names that get knocked down that Neil McEvoy has been copying.)

Isn't Alba the name given to the north of Britain before the Scots invaded from Ireland, conquered and then gave it their name?
