What a stupid reason to choose. It's not the only reason, though. I've heard him speak on webinars and meetings and I thought he'd resigned months ago.

It's been clear for months Tosh McDonald was going to leave the Labour Party. He had the ability to pick the issue which he could claim was "the straw the broke the camel's back". In those circumstances he should have wanted to pick something which justified his move and which was worth highlighting. So why on earth does he decide to make a fuss about cracking down on misuse of quad bikes?

It didn't mean that much to me, as I'm not tribal in that sense, and now I can't imagine being in a party, at least none of those currently on offer Perhaps it makes about more impact if you're a councillor? On someone's life, that is?

Good. I hope they stand a full slate and split the regionalist vote.

Good. I hope they stand a full slate and split the regionalist vote. It won’t work like that in practice since they are unlike to contest constituencies.

Councillor Chris McEleny (Inverclyde, West) is the first elected official to defect from the SNP to Alba.

Also one of Sturgeon's most vociferous critics within the party and a proponent of finding a way to achieve independence without a second referendum. Most SNP folk I know seem glad to be shot of him.

With Salmond's taste for the theatrical I wouldn't be too surprised if there were a few more councillors in the pipeline that he could unveil along the campaign trail. Parliamentarians seem much less likely though. Kenny MacAskill and Angus MacNeill are probably the only plausible ones now that Joanna Cherry has announced she's staying put.

I wasn't expecting any parliamentarians, just be interested to see how many cllrs depart. (and whether there will be any by elections as a result of course).

Craig Hannaway (Saltburn, Redcar and Cleveland) from Lab to Ind. He applied to Labour selection for Hartlepool. He claims he has been thrown out for criticizing Williams dropping out of the PCC race to join the by-election race. He claims being a Labour member at the moment is “not very good for your mental health" Council group leader say he is saddened. Labour North say they can't comment further. www.gazettelive.co.uk/news/teesside-news/labour-councillor-overlooked-hartlepool-election-20247353
