I have not yet been able to ascertain why. Expect some information over the course of this week, though.

The third councillor for the ward, who was previously group leader, was suspended in May. This was basically the only active part of the party in Burnley prior to the UKIP takeover.

Well I thought Dawn Butler played a blinder. (Also I support anyone who sticks up for the rights of people from Yorkshire to drive to London.)

I'm always glad to see the back of anyone I have to threaten in order to get paid for work that I've done for them.

This doesn't seem to have been mentioned here previously, but Linda Holt, who was elected to Fife Council as a Conservative for East Neuk & Landward in May 2017*, has been sitting as an independent since December 2019, when she left the Conservatives to back the Liberal Democrats in Fife North East in the 2019 election. She is apparently now an Alliance4Unity candidate for Holyrood next year: twitter.com/LHolt99* As it happens, I was her Green opponent in that election.

Alan Sked, former Liberal candidate who founded the Anti-Federalist League, then UKIP, then New Deal, then Prosper UK, is now an Alliance4Unity candidate on the Highlands & Islands regional list next year: www.alliance4unity.uk/

Not a full defection but interesting: His political affiliation has of course been . . . fluid in the past.

Not a full defection but interesting: His political affiliation has of course been . . . fluid in the past. So he has his sights on becoming a Labour MP? (I was his agent, for my sins of which these are some of the greatest, when he was elected twice as a LD Councillor - and I was a key person in getting him elected as a LD MEP before he was seduced by the "slimebag" Cameron (Mail on Sunday circa 2013).) His closest political allies, Pakistani heritage members of he Pendle Conservatives who used to be in the Liberal Democrats, may not be terribly pleased. I will make enquiries.

I met Karim many years ago at a Stretford and Urmston CA event. I didn't like him in the slightest. I'm not sure anyone did. He seemed very fond of himself.

I met him a few weeks after his defection at a Bangladeshi "do" in Crewe. Casually mentioned that I'd put him as my first preference in the vote to rank the Lib Dem candidates for the Euros. He squirmed. Good.

When he first got elected, Chris Davies made a comment (during his 'thank you' speech) that he was 'British by birth, Pakistani by heritage, European by outlook and Liberal Democrat by principle.'
Obviously everyone in the room with me burst out laughing.
