Cllr Abdul Chowdhury, St Marks ward, Farnborough, Rushmoor Borough Council. Lib Dem to Conservative. Big surprise.

That's very disheartening.

I don't know anything about this individual other than his name, but given what I do know, I don't find this defection in the least surprising

How many more will need to go until they lose their majority? Could this be another Harrow circa 2013 situation in the making?

They'd still need to lose another 12 to lose their majority... so unlikely at the moment. In fact, it is probably more sensible to ask what effect this might have on the 2022 council elections - while the three oouncillors all represent different wards, all the wards are in Enfield Southgate and all are relatively marginal. If the ward boundaries were remaining the same, then one might simply note that Labour could lose all its seats in those three wards and would still have a majority on the council - though a seriously reduced one. However, the boundaries of all the wards concerned are changing fairly significantly - which, on one side, may make it more difficult for the oouncillors to make use of any local personal support they might have but, on the other, may cause Labour some headaches since the changes over the borough as a whole look as if they are overall very marginally advantageous to the Conservatives.

Of course a change in leadership might alter the dynamic considerably.

She's going to have a battle on her hands to hold onto Bannockburn
(I note the SNP press release says she should resign, so there can be a byelection....)

How often do they say that when a councillor defects to them?

How often do they say that when a councillor defects to them? Not often I suspect, but luckily someone else usually does it for them!

As soon as I read “partner of former Stirling MP Steven Paterson” I knew it would be good! For those not in the know, the Stirling branch of the SNP is... interesting, to say the least.
