John Burnett? No such person. Liberal Democrat MP for Devon West / West Devon and Torridge between 1997 and 2005.

I disregard most of the stuff Dale comes out with, but this was rumoured locally once or twice. We'll, not rumoured exactly, more sort of mentioned down the pub after association meetings.

OK - sorry, my ignorance. But at least I wasn't the only person never to have heard of him. Oh for a return to the days when we had so many MPs that that could be the case!

Yes I’d heard that too. Wasn’t there a spell where there were several rumours of a Lib Dem defection to the Tories in the early years of the Cameron leadership- the Conservatives were very keen for one in order to prove they were changing. Burnett did sit for a very conservative seat and would have course have produced a ‘balance’ to the defection of his predecessor as MP. The golden rule of defections of course is if it is rumoured, it’s not going to happen.

A couple but they were always vaguely tied to Northern seats. In the end it was Sajjad Karim.

It took me just 8 minutes, 54 seconds to name the 127 Liberal Democrat MPs.

I got 65. There were a few on the tip my tongue- David Chidgey, Nigel Jones, Sam Gyimag to name a few- and I just couldn't remember the first or last names of some (Lynne Featherstone, Dan Rogerson).

I got 98. I think I would have got another 20 or so if I’d done it on laptop and typed on a keyboard rather than iPad.
The 5 who completely escaped me and I wouldn’t have got any way were Parmjit Gill, Simon Wright, Ian Swales, Michael Crockart and John Barrett

You only need to enter the surname. So you get the ex-MP for Penistone etc. as a freebie when entering the former MP for Rochdale or West Aberdeenshire.

I slipped up on Philip Lee by mistyping Phillip.

I slipped up on Philip Lee by mistyping Phillip. I got him completely by accident by trying to type Leech. I then had to re-type Leech.

John Barrett eluded me for a minute because he had held on so easily in Edinburgh West in 2001 and 2005, and he was not particularly notable either.

Matthew Green is the one is struggled with, I knew Ludlow had had a Lib Dem MP but just couldn't remember any part of his name. I got Crockart and Swales (Swales because he's related to someone I was at school with).
