Higgins topped the poll on first preferences in every constituency. The closest he came to losing one were Donegal (predicatbly) and Tipperary, although he got a lower vote share in Roscommon—Galway than the latter county. His highest vote share came in Dublin Bay South, his largest raw vote in Dublin Bay North. Donegal appears to be a peculiar place - I see it also only voted narrowly Yes in the Blasphemy referendum, and No in the Abortion referendum? Reasons, anyone? I'd be genuinely interested to know.

I am no expert, but it's obviously the remotest county, probably among the poorest? (And at the same time a fortress of the left-radical SF...)

I maintain that no place in the Republic is weirder than Dundalk.
