Um, what do you expect him to say exactly?? I rarely have any idea what Ian will say (unless it is a diatribe against anything Tory). I was rather curious what his views on or perhaps excuses for Labours performance in Bradford W might be I think the explanations are rather depressingly obvious - the one crumb of comfort, maybe, being that they have b***er all to do with the wider political picture...... Anybody (especially on my "own" side) who pretends this is in any way a judgement on EM, in particular, is beyond contemptible.

Several of the Labour activists in the bar started cheering Galloway's win as "sending Blair a message". I nearly exploded.

Sectional politics is disgraceful and to see an egomaniac demagogue like Galloway prosper as a result of it is galling...

And Tories down to barely 8% - all others (LibDems included) forfeit their deposits. Bizarre, utterly unexpected - and more than a little disturbing

Something very fishy is going on here. Labourlist claiming that turnout is over 50% with a high % of postals?
I am not surprised we lost our deposit, but some small comfort that we came 4th...*clutches at straws*....
Anyway. Good night to you all.

As related by Tim-RP above, both Tory and LibDem voters almost certainly did that in Bethnal Green in 2005

This is sectional politics at its worst, and is a disastrous result for broad based cohesive politicians.

Look, I'll be honest, I'm not Galloway's greatest fan, and I'm not about to subscribe to his newsletter. But he speaks far more truth from a left-ist perspective than most in the Labour Party ever will, and on the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, he's been proven right. I like someone who is provocative and interesting. Better him than the photocopied robots we see from all parties in the Commons at the moment. I don't agree with everything he says. I do think it's good to have him back in the Commons. I agree... Labour need to fecking wake up and smell the reality mixed in with the napalm this morning! exalt!

It indeed has nothing to do with Ed M, nor does it have anything to do with the Coalition. It has plenty to do with the actions of (in the main) the Labour Party over the last 30-40 years in areas like Bradford and something to do with the way that successive Governments have dealt with some ethnic minority groups in a socio-political context over a similar period. "Those that sow the wind, shall reap the whirlwind", the indefatigable one was the whirlwind last night.

Bizarre, utterly unexpected - and more than a little disturbing The crazy thing is, looking at those figures, quite a few Tories must switched their vote to Galloway...... I'd guess you have two elections here, the inner-city one with a high turnout and the outer wards one with a lower turn out. Tory biraderi groups may have switched to Galloway, but probably not outer ward Tories.

What share of the postal votes did Galloway get then?

I have just watched the declaration on the recording I made from Sky News and shall I tell you what it reminded me of?
(Slide to 6' 45" for Bethnal Green declaration)
Does he believe that every single election registration office in the country is out to stop his election?

What share of the postal votes did Galloway get then? I saw various tweets last night suggesting it was about 75% - don't know what proportion of the total votes were postal, but we know the kind of things that have gone on in areas with certain demographics. Still the results were such that the white voters must have voted for him in reasonable numbers, even allowing for a large differential in turnout
