Yes Pop in the North and Fizzy Drinks in the South East. When visiting North Shrops/Greater Stoke I too was pleased to see the Corona lorry but was then (when there) addicted to American Cream Soda. And later a Coca Cola phase but it was all over before I left the Teens. Too sweet and too expensive and I discovered real ale at 14 and pubs at 15 which would serve me. Not sure how many years difference there is, but when I was a kid it was the Co-op Pop van every Saturday morning/early afternoon; my next door neighbour’s two youngest kids used to take me round the estate in my pre-wheelchair buggy collecting people’s empties - I think they thought I attracted the sympathy vote even then - but I never did get a cut of however much they earned for returning the empties. We looked forward to visiting rellies in Edinburgh, as then we could stock up on Cremola Foam.

It is now conceivable that the Greens make a Polling breakthrough to parity of superiority to the LDs despite being very inferior in organizational ability and in the ambition to stand seats and gain seats. Because the voting public have no idea of the huge disparity in the possibility of electing representatives between those two parties. But when that breakthrough comes (and I see that breakthrough to be quite inevitable) and it becomes commented upon widely, and that in turn leads to more members, more activity, more candidates and far less complicity with the LDs over defeating the majors, but a realization that initially one must squeeze the other for either to attain major success, then, and only then will the Greens become an actual force in practical politics rather than a political tendency within an ideal, within each of the majors rather than a stand alone serious party. When that happens it will affect all parties and could be quite rapid in its effects.

YouGov tends to give some of the better Green figures, and they must still be vulnerable to a bit of a GE squeeze.
But their long term growth is undeniable, and it is mostly ground based which may indeed bode well in the future.

It did, although interestingly North Shropshire, where there has been some Green success in getting councillors elected, didn't.

Aah, good old Clemens & August, it has been a while since they closed their UK stores.

Woolworths exists in Germany? And in Australia. The Australian Woolworths has a different history from the FW Woolworth group to which the German Woolworth originally belonged. Interestingly, a British company now owns the German group.

I recall being told when young that C&A had some Nazi history. I see that a recent book has set that out.

I recall being told when young that C&A had some Nazi history. Quite a journey to voting Lib Dem then... the great cricketer & multi-sportsman C.B.Fry (also held the world long jump record & played in the FA Cup Final) was a Liberal parliamentary candidate, but also advised Adolf Hitler on the formation of a youth movement.

And Oswald Moseley was first a Tory, then a Labour MP, and indeed touted as a future Labour Prime Minister...
