Starmers tactics still working I think. Gold Cup day today- so he will be giving us his tips tomorrow, and many will be impressed I’m sure.

A perfectly serious comment. Irritating the pompous while confusing the dim is just a little extra. In terms of political tactics the refusal throughout the Coronavirus crisis to commit to a position on any specific measure in advance but simply wait until outcomes become clear then criticise has been effective if not particularly admirable. And as I’ve said before there’s really no need for an Opposition leader to do anything else for as long as it works. The schools question is the first time perhaps where it has appeared as a weakness, which Johnson has managed to expose.

We truly are through the looking glass when the modern Tory party start lecturing on "admirable political tactics"

I've been impressed with Starmer. He's hardly put a for wrong in the last few months. If he can keep the Culture War nonsense in the box for Labour, I think he's got a decent chance of becoming PM, and I would welcome it.

Just nothing there. Can't see there's any possibility of me voting next time, which will be the first set of elections I've missed.

The difference between Starmer being seen as PM and Labour seen as ready for Government is stark. Fair to say Starmer is hugely disadvantaged by a political system that requires 326 Labour MPs for him to become PM

Let's see what people think about Labour "being ready" (or indeed good on the economy) after another year or two of the present chaos.

Indeed, he needs the *support* of 326 MPs - but they don't all have to be Labour.

Christ guys it's a pretty low bar if our best hope is that we might win a majority in the commons if not in the country

Shouldn’t surprise anyone (except maybe college feminists still pretending that “the patriarchy” is what stops women going topless in public)
