Since nobody else seems keen, you're stuck with me, mistakes and all.
3 Conservative defences this week and all are straight Con-LD-Lab battles:
EAST STAFFORDSHIRE BC, Crown (Con resigned) Candidates: MARJORAM, Gordon Edward (Conservative) PETTINGALE, Michael David (Liberal Democrat) WALKER, William (Labour)
2015: Con 1249; Lab 325 2011: Con 901; Lab 238 2007: Con 719; Lab 128; BNP 117 2003: Con 565; Ind 385; Lab 159
The indy from 2003 was the victorious Conservative in 2007 and 2011.
MID DEVON DC, Cranmore (Con died) Candidates: BUSH, Steve (Labour) CRUWYS, Les (Liberal Democrats) KENNEDY, Lance (Conservative)
2015: Con 1102, 848, 766; Ind 731, 625, 481; Lab 533, 503 2011: Con 728, 611, 589; LD 675, 647, 575 2007: LD 663, 635, 622; Con 520, 510; UKIP 453 2003: Con 519, 456; LD 440, 285, 281; UKIP 351; Lab 295, 230, 187
The Lib Dem candidate was the highest placed indy in 2015. The second indy was one of the incumbent Lib Dems from 2011 & 2007. The bottom placed indy from 2015 is (probably) thee Labour candidate this time.
SOUTH OXFORDSHIRE DC, Benson & Crowmarsh (Con resigned) Candidates: COOPER, Sue (Liberal Democrats) PAPA, Domenic (Conservative) SORENSON, William (Labour)
2015: Con 2247, 1770; LD 1457, 618; Grn 606; Lab 513, 480
The Lib Dem candidate was the top placed Lib Dem in 2015. The huge discrepancy between the two candidates last time possibly due to her having been a councillor for the old Benson ward from (at least) 2003 until 2011 when she lost the seat to the Conservatives by 62 votes.

I see the Conservative councillor who died was only 21 and was elected as the youngest in the UK. I doubt if her family are reading this but if they are, my sincere condolences. No-one should be taken at such a young age.

That's very sad Is it the record for youngest death triggering a by election?

That's very sad Is it the record for youngest death triggering a by election? Through death perhaps, but there have been a few I think when people have been elected whilst at Uni and then quit as they’ve got a post-graduation job somewhere at the other end of the country, which working on a three year degree course from aged 18 would only make them 21.

There was a distinctly young Tory councillor on Lancaster DC who passed away unexpectedly a few years ago.

There was a distinctly young Tory councillor on Lancaster DC who passed away unexpectedly a few years ago. George Askew? He was 32. Chris Andrew, Conservative councillor for Jubilee ward on Enfield, died aged 31 in 2008. Tayo Oladapo, Labour councillor for Kilburn ward on Brent, died aged 34 in 2016. Iain Pigg killed himself aged 27 while Liberal Democrat councillor for Moorfields ward on Hackney in 1997.

The early death that sticks in my mind was David Potts, Conserative turned UKIP councillor for Cleadon and East Boldon ward, South Tyneside council, who died in 2013.

I'm acquainted with Colin Ellar who was for many years a Labour councillor in Hounslow (I think he was deselected this year). His son Jason was elected to Hounslow council too in 2010, aged only 18 (he was one of the Labour candidates who gained Syon ward from the now-apparently-disbanded Isleworth Community Group) but he retired in 2014 aged only 22. I met a young (and Young) Liberal in Trafford who agreed to stand as a paper candidate at a young age (21?). The Tories messed up their nomination papers and she won. To her credit she served her term and then stood down.

Why is Crown so named? Perhaps it could be something to do with the fact that there are some Duchy of Lancaster woodlands in the area.

Well done Andrew for an excellent report especially on Cranmore Although, as a constituent, I suspect your more complimentary of Jack Brereton than even his local Party colleagues for whom he was not their choice as PPC last year.

Well done Andrew for an excellent report especially on Cranmore I liked the bit about that Tiverton election involving GJ Harney and Palmerston- a lifetime ago I remember teaching about that election and I had almost forgotten George Julian
