I think that the, erm, two gold bars worth $100,000 each, as bungs, are objectively far more egregious.

Robert Menendez, D, New Jersey, to resign from the Senate next month. It appears that a replacement will not face the electorate until 2026.

Would seem odd if he did when he’s decided to resign Money may be a factor, it’s reported that Schumer had the votes for a Motion to Expel which if carried, and he wasn’t re-elected, means he loses his Senate pension, but if he resigns and loses re-election he keeps it.

Probably, the only downside is that it leaves the House seat open when the Dems are still close enough to worry the Republicans on every vote. It’s maybe worth noting Kim did beat the Governor’s wife in the primary so part of him might not be inclined to help the Congressman….

We need a Laphonza Butler type, maybe Jon Corzine for a bit? At least Dems haven't got the doomsday scenario of Tom Kean Jr (R) vs Andy Kim (D) vs Bob Menendez (I). A repeat of 2006 but with the slime ball Menendez running as an Independent. Hopefully Murphy won't pick Menendez's son for the Senate seat!

Doubt he will pick Menendez Jr for three reasons: a) Jr has his House reelection race to work on; b) the optics would be appalling for Murphy who it’s believed has ambitions beyond the Governor’s mansion; c) since the Senate primary there doesn’t seem much love lost between the families.

NJ isn't lacking in older, experienced Dems who would be happy to caretake the seat for a few months to end their career as a US Senator.
